Is a Celebrant led wedding legal?

In England and Wales, independent and humanist celebrants cannot currently perform legally binding marriage ceremonies. However this should not put you off - many couples complete the legal bit in the days leading up to the wedding ceremony. In England and Wales the current fee is £56 for this. The cost for a registrar to marry a couple is actually comparable to the cost of a celebrant, but as a celebrant I can offer you so much more than the same old repeated ceremony! In Scotland celebrant led weddings are legally binding, so if you want me to marry you there then I absolutely can!

Am I restricted to where a celebrant can marry us?

Absolutely not! The joy of a celebrant led wedding is that I can marry you anywhere! When you aren't bound by licensing rules, you can be ultra creative, and I will always do my best to help facilitate a ceremony in a location that is perfect for you!

Why choose a celebrant? Doesn't a registrar do the same thing?

Ok, so I don't really think you can compare the two, as they really are two different services. A registrar can legally marry you, and will do so using a script that will be the same for every couple they see - no frills or surprises. The cost of a registrar to attend your wedding is £790, so doesn't even come in much cheaper than the cost of a celebrant. What you'll get for your money with a celebrant though is just so much more - a ceremony that is exactly what you want, unique to you, and utterly memorable. As far as I can see, it's a no brainer!

 

How much does a celebrant cost?

 My celebrant services start from £650, my pricing is transparent and can be found in the 'Love Stories' section of the website.

How will you contact me?

I'll start with a phone call and we will arrange to meet- either in person (wherever you would feel most comfortable) or via Teams. When you have have confirmed you would like me to officiate your ceremony then I'll set up a WhatsApp group that we can use to share ideas, thoughts and any questions leading up to the big day. I'll send you a questionnaire to find out about you, and then I'll get to writing the first draft! I'll check in with you regularly, and then we will have another call/in person meet up a couple of weeks before the big day so we can finalise the script. Throughout the whole process think of me as your wedding fairy godmother - on hand to wave my wand and help you with anything you need to achieve the perfect day!

How far in advance should I book? 

Secure your date as soon as you can, my books are open until 2028. I'll only ever book one wedding a day so you know that once you have booked me, you will have my dedicated attention.

How far will you travel?

How far are we going?! I love to travel, let me know your requirements and I will do my utmost to be there! Please note, there may be additional costs for travel beyond 1 hour from my home in Chelmsford.

How do I pay? 

I ask for a 25% deposit to secure your date, with the remainder payable either in instalments or in full two weeks before your event date. 

 

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?
